Governance in Diversa Multi Academy Trust

In a multi-academy trust (MAT), a single trust is responsible for a number of school academies. The MAT consists of the members and the trustees

The trustees are responsible for the same three core governance functions performed by the governing body in a maintained school: setting the direction, holding the head teacher to account and ensuring financial probity

The members are akin to the shareholders of a company. They have ultimate control over the academy trust, with the ability to appoint some of the trustees and the right to amend the trust’s articles of association

Local governance at individual schools in Diversa .

Diversa schools’ local governance is in the form of School Oversight Teams (SOT). Individuals who sit on School Oversight Teams have a local responsibility for their school within the Diversa Trust. This is because trustees can delegate governance functions to the local level.

Trustees have complete discretion over what is delegated to each SOT. They may, for example, decide to delegate all functions to academies in the partnership that are performing well and only a few to those academies that need greater support.

Each Diversa school has its own School Oversight Team to carry out some of its school-level governance functions, although as trustees are not required to sit on School Oversight Team, decision making is limited. Trustees will appoint the chair, and ensure that two parents and up to two members of staff are elected to each School Oversight Team.
